Dear Students, this is a quick series of sketches I prepared to discuss about the undifferentiated line versus the differentiated line. The first image shows a sketch used for the analysis of these two types of lines. The second sketch shows the undifferentiated line and the "silhouette" effect it tends to create (flat forms). the third sketch shows a more differentiated line: thick, thin, thick again, soft, sharp, flaring lines, these lines are very efficacious for rendering volumes and overlapping volumes. the fourth image goes a little bit more in detail. Please let me know if these sketches explain the process clearly enough or if you need me to elaborate more on this topic. Best Roberto

Oh WOW! This is awesome. I've always wondered why my drawings looked flat. Now I understand clearly, thank you Roberto. I will definitely use line that describes volumes. Okay now, I just have to remember to practise it in my drawings. LOL!
