For project I used all cotton fabric and batting. I used some sheer fabric on the wings of the dragonfly. Also used some fabric paint on the wings.
What was your inspiration?
When buying my daughters wedding dress I saw a stained glass piece the shop owner had made. We visited and she took a photo copy of the piece so I could use it as a pattern. That was 8 years ago!! Finding the right fabrics and laying it out on fabric was a little challenging. I actually had it done once and hated everything from the white frame out, it was all too dark. I actually removed all that fabric from the top and came up with the yellows. Once I got that handled there was a void, the flowers were off centered. So I had to decide what to put there. I found the dragonfly and loved it. Loving applique and wanting to make something beautiful...........
What are you most proud of?
I have actually completed this project and am very proud of the end results. In this I can see my growth in applique abilities and quilting. My combination of colors and use of the fabric paint to not only highlight the wings but stablize the sheer fabric.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Be open to change. The original stained glass only had one lily and nothing else. Create as you go, it all comes from the heart. If you feel something is missing and cant figure it out...set it aside. I did that more than once in the last 8yrs and am very happy with my end result. I now have this hanging in my hallway. I am totally drawn to it every time I pass by because of the echo quilting......amazing. I cant get a good shot of it in the hallway but the last picture added (without the name label) does show what I was just talking about.
