Instructions

With all the materials listed above, you can make your own fun books.

Difficulty:

Category: Paper Crafts

Type of item: Functional

For: Other

Style: Funky, Cute

Materials

Cardstock, printer paper or the like, embroidery thread, needle, paper cutter, scissors, (optional: small hole punch and large upholstery needle. stamps and ink for decorating the cover)

What was your inspiration?

For National Book Preservation Week back in May, the Preservation Dept. at work (yay, libraries) put on a bookmaking activity. They had all these materials prepped so participants simply stitched up the spines. If you have paper, thread, needle and scissors, you can totally make one of these!

What are you most proud of?

I like how these little guys turned out. But think the hand-cut stamps I used on the front covers are the best part. They make these mine. I would say break out the stamping kits for when you are done assembling the books.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

If you don't have an actual paper cutter, use a long ruler and blade to cleanly cut your inside pages and cardstock covers. Also, you can use decorative scrapbook paper for the covers. Basically, whatever kind of paper you have lying around can become one of these notebooks. Yup, that means upcycling fun!
