What advice would you give someone starting this project? You must have the right icing to achieve good results in terms of loo/color and texture.

Great job it is very nice cake beautiful colors!! I noticed that in your cakes you always have very nice cakeboards what do you use to cover your cake boards? like this particular one and also how did you manage to get that beautiful red and black colors? did you buy the the icing with color in it?

Hi! Thank you so much! For my boards I have started using fabric. I go to the store and choose one that I like. For Lightning McQueen, I traced a the board on white adhesive paper (or plastic) and cut it. Then I stuck the this paper/plastic to the tissue. This is to make sure that the colors of the fabric really pop out because my cake boards are silver. Then I place it carefully and staple the fabric under the board. After using it you get rid of the fabric and you should be able to reuse the board!

Oops, I didn't mean to make this into two parts... Black is not so hard to do if you know how to, you start with a basic recipe ( I used http://www.wilton.com/recipe/Buttercream-Icing) Then you add some cocoa to the icing to darken the color and use less black color. Then you can add your black, I used wilton's black paste but have also tried another brand in gel. For the red I bought it, I tried Wilton's no-taste red, but it takes A LOT of it and didn't have enough so had to buy it. Apparently it is easier to achieve red with an all-shortening icing (I don't like shortening) No matter the color you make, they tend to become darker/more intense so give it a few hours. Hope this helps!
