Hand dyed 100% cotton fabric. Cotton Batting

What was your inspiration?

I took a class at the KNoxville AQS show a year ago. Gwen Marston taught this class on liberated quilting. I enjoyed the process and the use of solid color fabric.

What are you most proud of?

I finished this and hand quilted it in less than a month.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Basic sewing knowledge. But the process is very forgiving. You just keep adding pieces and then trim the blocks to your desired size.

The book is called "Liberated Quiltmaking II" by Gwen Marston. YOu can google Gwen Marston for a link to her website and you can order this book or any of her other books there, also get to look at her wonderful quilts. I took a class from Gwen at the Knoxville Quilt show a couple of years ago. This quilt was my first and so far only project in this style. I like the simplicity of solid color quilts.

Thanks for that-the reason I ask is that I am planning a log cabin myself and wanted to quilt by hand. It is hard to tell the size from your photo. Is this one a wall or full bed size? I am partial to the wonky way of quilting. I made one for my grandsons first quilt.

Love this quilt- all of it! Did you use a big stitch style of hand quilting> cant tell on my computer.

I guess you would call it a big stitch, I am not a very good hand quilter and this project I felt works with a more primitive stitch. I used a double strand of embroidery floss to quilt it

Yes I used a big stitch to give it a primitive look, but that is also easier on me. I used emroidery floss, double strand to quilt this.

Yes I did a large quilting stitch using two strands of embroidery floss in the needle.
