Painted and Patent Leather
What was your inspiration?
I work with someone who teaches students how to work with leather and I thought is would be different to do a stocking made from leather painted by one of our Autism students. The stocking was made to give in a stocking exchange for a sewing group I had just joined.
What are you most proud of?
I am proud to use new skills that I'm learning while working with leather, especially stitching around the curves.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
This project requires knowledge of working with leather and a walking foot industrial sewing machine. Leather does not require as many steps as sewing with fashion fabrics. Although some machines can sew leather with the right needle and teflon foot, the thickness of the leather and the type of thread needed affects the stitching.
