What was your inspiration?
I saw this queen-size quilt displayed on the wall at the Kokopelli Qult Shop in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I picked up and put the kit back three times before my husband said something like "Buy it!" The fabrics were easy to work with and are so bright! We purchased the pattern and kit in October; began work immediately; took it to a long-arm quilter in March; and it was finished in May.
J. Michelle Watts is the pattern designer and has other patterns and books featuring southwestern themes.
What are you most proud of?
My husband did most of the tracing onto fusible web and cutting of the pieces including the border pieces. My job was to do the machine applique. I would have to say I am most proud of having it completed! I wish you could see the machine quilting in person--my long-arm quilter did the quilting free hand on her long-arm, so each block is quilted to match the individual cross, as is the border.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Don't be afraid to try it. The instructions are very thorough and the Albuquerque quilt shop was most helpful even though I live in Nebraska.
