What is exciting or interesting to you about your photo(s)? This was a situation where I wish I could have gotten a lot closer, even with my 500mm lens + 1.4x teleconverter. But given my distance limitations, I made the most of the situation, putting the bird in the upper right "rule of thirds" position and leaving plenty of room for the sagebrush vegetation, a distinctive feature of this bird's habitat, to feature prominently in the photo.

Can you tell us about any special equipment or techniques that you used? Canon 5D Mark III, 500mm f/4L IS lens with 1.4x teleconverter. ISO 320, 1/1250s at f/7.1.

Nice moody feeling . Background is almost impressionistic . The bird really pops
