Instructions

none except keep experimenting!!

Difficulty:

Category: Other

Type of item: Clothing

For: Other

Style: Casual

Materials

silk noil - dyed three times starting with Golden Yellow. Then Purple, and then a mixed rust. Just wanted folks to see that large pieces can be manipulated just like small pieces!

What was your inspiration?

I bought a felting machine (Embellisher) and wanted to work with my dyed fabrics and the felted shapes.

What are you most proud of?

I love the colors.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

You can do it too!

Wow, this is unbelievable. I can only hope to make pieces this beautiful. I make felted pieces for other artisans and decided to take this class to add dyeing to add to my collection in the hope of being able to sell some. I'm not sure I'd want to let a piece like this go though!

When you make beautiful things it is good to find them new homes! It gives you more psychic space to create more!! and then the process repeats itself.

I've never tried felting, but this project is so elegant. I didn't expect elegant.

Yiu never know until you try it - we have to remember that companies who make equipment like the Embellsiher machine have a specific way of using it in mind but it doesn't mean that we, as artists, can't blow thier minds with new approaches to what they envisioned!!

The best way to get past fear of using a machine is to use it! I find it easier to get started by cutting up some 15" squares of various leftover fabrics and then assembling some other supplies - pieces of felt cut into shapes like in my pic, or threads and yarns - anything that won't break a needle! Then I just play on the little squares in order to understand what the machine will do. It's fun and not so challenging as starting a big project with materials that feel too "precious" to mess up. And the machine will work on all kinds of things that the basic instructions don't suggest. I've even felted into window screen. (not the metal one but the other stuff.)

Just jump in and have a few extra needles handy...I broke a few while I was getting the hang of how to move the cloth and my feet at the same time. It's a little like dancing!!

Gorgeous! The colors are so rich. I've had my embellisher for a few months now and I'm amazed at all it can do, just love it. Enjoy!
