Who is this project for?
What materials did you use?
Argentium Silver and Lapis Beads
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Prepare to spend a lot of time on this piece. I used argentium wire so that i would not have to worry so much about tarnishing.
you can learn the byzantine pattern for free on several websites. The rest is pretty easy to do on this but it is beautiful
I actually have a couple of chainmaille books with this same pattern in it so technically it is not his own pattern. just an fyi =)
Hi, I saw in your comment below that you mad the jump ringz using 18g wire and that they were 4.5mm. So, I was wondering...was the 4.5mm the inner diameter (id) or the outer diameter (od). For those not real familiar with chain maille, patterns will usually distinguish between inner and outer, and will sometimes give both along with the gauge of wire they're using. Reason being is, you may want the size ring with a specific outer diamter but the inner diameter changes based on the guage of the wire you're using and is important because that determines things like how many other jump rings you can fit through one jump ring without distorting it. That's about the extent of what I know about chain maille, as I haven't been able to afford the cost of good wire. And if I'm going to go to all the trouble and time to make ANYTHING, but ESPECIALLY chain maille, I want to make sure that it's going to be something I can wear! I'm pretty sensitive to just base metal wire/chain... :-) Thank you for your time!!! Oh! By the way, I failed to mention that your piece is absolutely GORGEOUS!!! I was actually wondering if it was for sale?
The diameter listed is the inside diameter of the jump ring. Unfortunately, I sold this piece two weeks ago at my last show.
Wish I had the patience for jump rings, that was gorgeous!
