Category: Sewing

Type of item: Accessory

For: Women

Style: Funky, Outdoorsy, Casual

Materials

cotton fabrics, interfacing, batting

What was your inspiration?

I'd seen other bags made with little scenes appliqued on the front, and decided to try some of my own. This was my first little landscape. Unfortunately, I sold it before I even got a picture of the completed bag, but this landscape block was made into a simple tote and the border on the landscape as well as the green back, sides and handles were quilted.

What are you most proud of?

I love my little landscape and plan to make another. I still have most of the same fabrics, but will have to hand-dye another piece of that one that includes the bits of yellow unless I can find a satisfactory replacement for that fabric.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

You might want to draw your design on paper first. Cut the pieces to allow for overlapping 1/4 inch or so. Then place the fabrics representing the most distant parts of the scene first and work your way toward the closest parts.
