Instructions

Lacy Serpentine Scarf is knit side-to-side along its length in an amazingly easy lace pattern that looks more complicated than it really is.

The serpentine lace stitch has only three different patterned rows, so the rhythm is quickly learned and enjoyed.

Difficulty:

Category: Knitting

Type of item: Accessory

For: Women

Style: Traditional, Classic

Materials

Winter Lace Junior yarn by Mountain Colors, color Red Willow

What was your inspiration?

Working with hand-painted variegated yarns in a sideways construction to take advantage of long runs of color in a vertical rather than horizontal orientation.

What are you most proud of?

To knit the scarf, you merely cast on for one side of the scarf, then work the easily memorized pattern in long rows. Before you know it, you've knit across the scarf and are ready to bind off for the other side.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Allow 400 yards of lace weight yarn for 71" wide by 9" long scarf, or desired width or length with yardage adjustment. 4 stitches/inch in pattern, size US 4 / 3.5 mm needles suggested. Pattern includes both charted and written stitch instructions.
