Kumihimo meets David Christensen

Is this your project? Can you share instructions or a pattern with the Craftsy community?

Difficulty:

Category: Jewelry

Type of item: Accessory

For: Women

Style: Retro / Vintage, Romantic, Classic

Materials

Swarovski crystals, jewel toned #8 Czech seed beads, David Christensen furnace glass focal pendant Bali beads.

What was your inspiration?

I have been looking for a look to highlight some David Christensen glass I have and when I tried kumihimo I came up with this necklace.

What are you most proud of?

I like how the necklace flows from the beaded kimihimo through to the Swarovski crystals.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Make sure you use a weight to create consistent tension on the braid or your braid and beads will have a lumpy look. Lots of extra clon thread is a must or the weight of the beads will strip the thread out of your bobbins and you will be playing pickup!!!

I don't have this necklace anymore. I donated it to Beads of Courage so I can't give specific materials. I might try writing a tutorial sometime soon.

I love this necklace. It is exquisite. The gradation of your beads' color beautifully compliments your Furnace Glass. The effect is masterful.

Thank you! I have had some of his focal pieces for over a year and I have tried many different things with them and nothing did them justice. Then I learned kumihimo and it came together. I can't wait to experiement with some of the other pieces now!
