What was your inspiration?

My daughter was being promoted to police sergeant and the red section of the shield in the upper left was left blank until she got her new call sign.
This pattern and one for firefighters were produced by Lion Brand soon after the 9/11 tragedy. The backgrounds are knit in sections. All the designs are worked in duplicate stitch. After all were completed it was all stitched together. divided by navy blue cabled strips.

What are you most proud of?

That I was able to customize the police hat to match the type worn by her department, and change the lettering on the shield to say her dept.

The difficulty level is high only if you are not familiar with doing duplicate stitch designs.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

I did all the background sections and cabled strips first. IF i were to do it again, I would complete the background and duplicate stitch design on each section separately.
One thing I like about this pattern is that because of the sections, it is quite portable to work on. I did the motorcycle design while on a trip through Europe.

Thanks to all for your comments! I'll soon post a picture of the Dr. Who Scarf (season 14) that I'm just finishing.. still have to block (stretch) it an add the tassels.
