Blocking without a nice cardboard or foam board to pin into.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Glad I did the Skywalker shawl from the Lace Knitting class. Because of the class this was easier to do. I had never done lace knitting, so knowing tricks like putting in "life lines" and reading charts was very helpful for me.
If you have no fear and want to jump in, make a swatch so that your gauge is good. It's not so bad to have a large shawl, but it's hard to wear a shawl that's too small. Also good to know gauge in case you have a limited amount of yarn in your yarn stash.
