Kimonos

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Beginner Serging: Machine Basics & Techniques »

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Girls

Style: Whimsical

Materials

Satin Brochade

What was your inspiration?

I wanted to make something special for my grand-daughters for Christmas and found the material on sale.

What are you most proud of?

Before taking this course, I had no idea how to set the tensions to get the results I needed and, so, would not attempt this type of project.. I am very pleased with the professional look of the garment finish. I used a straight stitch to reinforce and secure the seams to avoid any fraying and the whole project was completed in 6 hours.
My little girls were thrilled with their gifts, as you can see from the picture.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

I copied a garment I had for myself and downsized the measurements to suit but there are several on the market to buy for children. Do your 'Tension homework and trust yourself.

Thank you...I didn't use a purchased pattern for these, however, there are several on the market in all sizes.
