Type of item: Clothing

For: Children

Style: Funky, Eco-Friendly, Cute

Materials

Upcycled fleece pants.

What was your inspiration?

Kaps for Kendall was my original inspiration along with my renewed interest in Restylistas and Refashion Co-op (blogs dedicated to upcycling materials into new outfits).

What are you most proud of?

Being able to use old materials in a new project.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

The purple outer fabric was sewn into a tube. I layed it flat on the table, and using my fashion ruler, drew an arc from one corner to the other, creating very pointed "devil" horns. I sewed the arc and trimmed the excess. The pink lining was sewn into a tube. I then put the pink tube around the outside of the purple one (right sides together) and sewed them together at the rim of the hat. I pulled the pink lining down , then tucked it inside the purple hat. I felt inside where the seam should be for the pink lining and marked it with a safety pin. Using my fashion ruler again, I drew a gentle arc on the pink lining, and sewed it, with them seam showing on the lining's outside. I tucked it back into the hat where the seam ultimately won't show. I took each of the pointy horns and tied a single knot...working it to make them both look even.

Super Cute! How wide is the tube? Wouldn't an arc make one point? I guess I'm a visual learner. I'd like to try it though.

I added better instructions in the section "What advice would you give someone starting this project?"

Could you give more guidance for the lining and cute knots at the top?

The purple outer fabric was sewn into a tube. I layed it flat on the table, and using my fashion ruler, drew an arc from one corner to the other and sewed the arc. I made the corners pointed and long so I could tie them into knots when the hat was turned right side out. the pink lining was sewn into a tube. I then put the pink tube around the purple one, right sides together and sewed them together at the rim of the hat. I turned the pink lining and tucked it inside...feeling inside where the seam should be for the pink lining. Using my fashion ruler again, I drew an gentle arc on the pink lining, and sewed it, with them seam showing on the outside of the lining. Does this make sense?
