What was your inspiration?
I identified with the name of the pattern and just had to make it. My single cousin, Kyle Christiansen, is a Colorado and Kansas farmer, and for an O'Brate/Payne family reunion silent auction table brought a 5"X7"framed photo of his field of sunflowers, which I promptly snatched up. This is the photo on the quilt's label that I made. Since we both came from a family of farmers I thought it was a great idea to feature it on my quilt. I've kept this quilt and don't know if I could ever part with it. I machine pieced and machine quilted it in 2005. The photo hangs in my sunflower-adorned kitchen. That theme probably went out of style years ago, but never for me.
What are you most proud of?
It was a joy to make and it helped to further deplete my fabric stash--so I could buy more....You may have noticed that I like to make scrap quilts. I like to play with all the different pretty fabrics. I'm like a child in a candy store when it comes to fabric.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
I really don't have any advice. If you find a pattern you like just go for it and wait for the results to emerge.
