Kaaterskill: LOST QUILT please help

the hand-quilting process
Adding blocks to the central motif
Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Traditional

Materials

Cottons, most of which were given to me by friends in a birthday fat quarter swap.

What was your inspiration?

This quilt is missing. It was last seen in Colorado, and we would very much appreciate any information leading to its return.

If you've seen this quilt, or heard anything that may lead you to believe that someone knows where it is, please contact help@craftsy.com or the designer directly.

What are you most proud of?

This quilt was entirely hand stitched, at 10 - 12 stitches per inch. The applique is hand-applied, and it took four years to complete. This quilt has won numerous awards, and graces the front of the June/July issue of Quilters Newsletter.

Well I read the story about how this quilt went missing. First of all UPS ALWAYS scans when they drop off a package so I can't understand why they don't know where it was dropped off. We do a lot of business with UPS and where we live they do not drop anything off without scanning where they dropped it off and at wat time it was dropped off and if it was left outside or in a porch..All those things should have been documented immediately...I can call UPS and they can tell me exactly where my package is at any moment once it has been placed in the system..This is very strange.. If they gave you a payment for insurance. They auto place a $100.00 value on anything shipped and ask you if you want to place more insurance on the package...So if they are saying they have NO record of it even being shipped then why did they pay you anything?? I would be doing a LOT of research on this. I see this has been over a year now, but darn it. you worked so hard on that quilt. I would make sure you understand their procedure from the moment you drop it off until it is delivered the the address it was sent to...Then retrace every step of the process and you will find where someone dropped the ball so to speak...It's just back tracking every move they made until you find where someone made a mistake...I would NOT give up until you find your quilt or you know what happened to it.. Don't let them get away with such poor business..Usually UPS is the best when it comes to what they do..

How did you lose this quilt. I don't understand how someone could take it.. Was it in a museum or something. Or at a quilt show??? Did someone come in your home and take it?? If it was taken from your home you should be able to narrow down the people who knew where it was at and just ask them if they told anyone about the quilt....Don't blame anyone just ask them if they told anyone where it was at...I am so sorry to hear that someone could do such a thing..So much hard work that went into that quilt. But t he one thing that whoever has it can say is they made that quilt....Because in their heart they know they had nothing to do with making that piece of art..Maybe they will return it after feeling guilty about taking it..Sometimes people make mistakes and later regret their mistakes and do the right thing and return what they walked off with.. I would think anyone that had any empathy for anyone would soon realize what they have done and would return YOUR piece of art...I live in Iowa so I don't think I will ever see your quilt but I will be on the lookout when I travel around to different states...But hopefully whoever took it will find it in their heart to return it to you...The rightful owner and creator of such a wonderful piece of art. I hope each time they look at it there will be something that will make them feel guilty and soon they will no longer be able to even look at it. Quilters are good people I believe and even though a mistake was made who ever took it will soon realize what a horrible mistake they have made..I will say a prayer each night for the return of your quilt. Although I don't think He is listening to me...But I will give it a try..

I was at www.quilterscache.com. They also list stolen and missing quilts. As I was reading I noticed there was a listing for a found quilt. All it says is it looks to be ne hand quilted. Just wanted to pass this along so you can make contact to see if it is yours. I hope it is. Your quilt is just beautiful.

I can't even imagine how sad it would be to loose something so beautiful even if you didn't make it, but to design and put so much of yourself in it and then have it be taken from you if just awful. My prayers are with you and I hope that it will show up or that you will be able to move on to others even more wonderful. Thank you for your talent and your time that you share with us.

I can't imagine having made such a beautiful work of art only to have it missing. By getting its photo out across the country, surely someone will have the integrity to get the quilt returned to you. I pray that God will guide whomever has the quilt or knows anything about its whereabouts to return it to you. There are still some good people in this country, and I have to hope that someone will step forward. I wish good luck to you in your quest.

First of all, while UPS drivers are not perfect, they seldom forget to scan in a package -- although it happens. I can't believe that it was sent without being insured, and insurance makes a driver ever so much more careful! I'd go to where it was last seen, and see if anyone there quit or was fired within days of it going missing. Let's face it. Only the people at the photo shoot knew what was in the package.

From what I understand, the driver that day was a substitute driver. The usual guy normally scans the packages at pick up, the substitute did not. I do not think a UPS driver would risk losing their job over this. Quilters Newsletter, the shipper, says the package left their office and insist that it is a UPS problem. I don't know what to believe....I just want my quilt back. :(

They cannot sell it for any where near it $$ value because it would be recognized and they cannot display it in their homes. so whats the point. Hopefully by going into the internet and making it know to so many quilters it will be found. It worked for Riky Tims when is was lost. Good luck in the return of your beautiful work of art.

I would start with the place it was picked up. It sound like it was part of a large number of other packages also being picked up at the same time. Trace the other packages back the the person who picked them up. This will give you the beginning of the trail. The records of the ones that were scanned are a good lead and the record that this quilt was also in that show will prove it was there with the other ones. The UPS company can then have a place to start and a person of interest to interview. Don't let them tell you there is nothing they can do. Whether the problem originated intentionally by the UPS employee, or it was an oversight, it is still a potential nightmare for the UPS company. Point out to them that they do not want you calling on the MASS MEDIA to help you find your quilt! Hope you find it soon!!!!

Thanks, Islands. When the quilt was first reported missing, I contacted our local paper, who spurred UPS into searching for the quilt. Corporate UPS kept in touch with me, and in the end they told me they could find no evidence of the quilt being shipped. Had they said they found the box and it was destroyed, I would be unhappy but at least I'd know what happened. Instead, I'm in limbo.
