Just Having Fun

Jana and her quilt

Jana and her quilt

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Craftsy Block of the Month 2012 »

Instructions

Just having fun.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Girls

Style: Funky, Cute

Materials

100% cotton

What was your inspiration?

My granddaughter wanted to learn to quilt. She did most of this work. She did all the blocks except for two. A scrappy heart and another block. We did not do the paper piecing and did some scrappy blocks instead. I did put the rows together for her.

What are you most proud of?

That my granddaughter, who is 10, stuck with this project.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Learning blocks a few at a time is a great way to learn new skills. try everything, but if you don't like a certain block don't feel you can't make changs.

All good wishes to you and Jana, I am sure you and your family will be in the thoughts of all the BOMers. What about a bucket bag to keep all her items close at hand or one of the zip pouches? Now, if Craftsy could do a course in fitting extra hours in a day what a help that would be!

What a great way to bond, may you share many more projects - 2013 BOM perhaps?

yes, I hope so. My granddaughter is having a spinal fusion on 12/12. It was discovered she had a birth defect which is causing one of her disc to slip off the top of the other. She will be in a brace for at least 3 months, and hopefully totally recovery in six months. I think we will watch the videos and decide what she feels up to doing. We might get a later start, but we are both excited about the prospect.

I sure hope so. I have been watching for this. Do you know if there is a 2013 BOM for Craftsy?

Just think Darlene - some day Jana will be saying "I've been quilting since I was 10. My Grandma taught me!". What wonderful memories you've built with such a beautiful quilt to remind you for years to come. Wonderful story! Thanks for sharing.

Top marks to Jana and to you for encouraging and helping her with it. I love the heart block and would like to see a close up of it to see how it's done. The colours are gorgeous

I posted a picture of teh heart block. You can see it is really just two strip scrap rectangles, then I just kep adding fabric until it was a square.
