Just Foolin Around

Is this your project? Can you share instructions or a pattern with the Craftsy community?

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Infant/Baby

Style: Classic, Casual, Traditional

Materials

Fabric scraps, solid neutral for background

What was your inspiration?

I was looking for a pattern that would look like it had curves, without actually having to piece curves. This 2 block pattern did just that.

What are you most proud of?

I'm really happy with the vibrant colors. As with alot of my work, this is very scrappy. I tend to get bored easily without the stimulation of working with a large number of fabrics, so scrap quilts keep me awake and interested long enough to finish the top.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

I did this quilt with foundation piecing, and that allowed nice matching from block to block. A secret of mine is, I don't use fabric or paper for the foundation. Instead I use coffee filters. I iron them flat, and trace the block onto each one. I press the seams open, and once you quilt and wash your project, the filters pretty much disappear as far as bulk is concerned.

I would be interested in purchasing the pattern. Is it commercially available? Very nice job!

Very clever! I love the bright, scrappy colors & the 2 block combo. Coffee filters are very intriguing. There's a wash-away foundation available too. I use it for applique but haven't tried it for foundation piecing.

Very clever! Looking closely, it looks like a kaleidoscope block and a snowball block. Did you design it or use a pattern for it? It's really beautiful. Love the border too!
