Serendipity is my favorite word. In fact, a zillion years ago we started a woman's church group that we called by that name, as we never knew what we would do for socialization outreach etc. This project was planned around my "stash" and it has gone in a couple of different directions over time. I still have a couple of blocks to reinvent, because color did not look right. I know some have made a "crazy quilt" choice of colors of just about everything, and they look just fine. I wanted something more balanced or with a common thread.....lots to do before we begin quilting.

It's funny because I did not buy them to use together! I had one base piece (Masai) I chose because it had the brown and green I needed for the guest room, and then I realized some bits for another project worked with it...then I added more...I'd like to take credit for planning the combinations, but it was more serendipity! I guess if you only buy things you love, things are bound to work together :-D

Beautiful blocks! I just checked out your other projects and my jaw dropped when I saw you Scherenschnitte Tree Skirt, it's amazing! How did you do the stitching that looks like circles? Did you cut the center out? Thanks so much for sharing, it's such an inspiration! Your tree looks wonderful! :)

Thanks!! Click on the project and I have given directions for making it. It is only plain white cotton, a little batting and decorative stitches. It is made up of a circle of cotton(2 layers) with a small hole cut out in the center, prairie points and a circular band which was stitched before being appliqued over the skirt and points. I loved making it, and won a contest with it.
