McCalls Christmas Stocking Pattern calls for size 5 needles but I knitted with size 10/11 needles in 1977 for my Son and daughter. In 2010 for my Grand Son, for my Grand Son and in 2011 or my Grand daughter. all came home from Hospital in these stockings! It is very easy Knit fair Isle Reindeer and Poinsetta and tress and dolls. Snowman is my Design one for my daughter in 1977 and one for my Grand daughter in 2011. Red Heart Knittind worsted red, white and Green. Addi Turbo Knittting Needles size 11.

What was your inspiration?

My son Came home in a Fabric Stocking from the Hospital in 1972. I found this Stocking Pattern in McCalls Christmas Ideas in 1977 and Knitted one for my Son and one my New Baby daughter to come home. I used size 10/11 Needles instead of Size 5 Needles and Created these Jumbo Size Stockings. The Snow Man Design was my own Idea. These Two stockings have been hung on the Mantle Every Christmas since 1977. They always been center of attention at Christmas time. Indeed I played Santa and filled them too. I shred these stockings at the Knitting convention in Santa Clara in 2011. When I mentioned i made these from Red Heart Yarn, That company was very pleased too.

What are you most proud of?

My son liked it so much he said mom knit a stocking that will go from upstairs fireplace to downstairs fireplace. He was outsmarting me and Santa to fill that long stocking!!. In 2010 when my son had a son I knitted the Reindeer stocking for my Grand son and my Son In Law as well. They were a HIT last year. Now in 2011, my daughter announced she was pregnant by saying Mom are you ready to knit another stocking. So here is another BIG snowman stocking for my new Gran daughter born just in time a week Christmas 2011.I am so proud of these Stockings Still need to knit one for the dog with improvised dog bones instead of Reindeer or Snowman. Proud of my Knitting masterpiece, Cable Sampler Afghan with very difficult cables including one called cables from hell. shared that one too at the Knitting Convention in 2005. Love to knit Tea Cozies and of Course baby Layettes with Cables and lace.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

This Chritmas Stocking is pretty easy to Knit. Fair Isle Kntting. use small amounts of colored yarn and the work goes faster. Make sure you Enlarge the Graphs. give it a month to complete the Project. small size or Big size the effort is the same. you can use Shiny Yarn and Beads to as embellishments. top stich the name after finishing. Makes great Personlised Gifts Starting with little onse in the family to all Adults . happy knittingf1
