What was your inspiration?

My husband has long arms and it's hard to find men's shirts to fit him. So when I saw the Classic Tailored Shirt class, I had to take it.

What are you most proud of?

I'm most proud that it looks so much like a real shirt. I took my time and learned a lot in the class. I love that the seams are all finished and it is so neat.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Take your time and do a practice shirt first if you're new to these techniques. I made a ton of mistakes on the muslin I made but that made it possible to make the real thing nicely.

Also, if you're doing the suggested male pattern, as I did, be aware that the sleeve placket and the cuffs are assembled a bit differently than Pam does the women's pattern. She has put up a tutorial on her blog about how to do a "tower placket" which is what the men's pattern has. For the cuff I just followed the pattern's instructions.

Well done, it looks lovely and the fit on the arms is perfect. I also used that pattern to make a shirt for my husband but the collar come out huge, it looked like something from the seventies. I have since had to remove, change and replace the collar which make it look a whole lot better. Next time I think I'm going to follow Pam's advice to extend all the seams, it was quite tricky working with quarter inch seam all the time.

The seventies. It was fun to grow up then but I often wonder what they were thinking as far as fashion and hair styles go. Wonder why you had issues with the collar.
