Instructions

Hand embroidered, mainly counted back stitch but also cross stitch over 1 thread for the wording.

Difficulty:

Category: Other

Type of item: Accessory

For: Other

Style: Romantic, Mod

Materials

Belfast 32 count linen in Antique White, DMC floss, Mill Hill Petite beads and Kreinik Silver Cord. Hand made twisted cord and tassel.

What was your inspiration?

Saw this and was persuaded to stitch it for my niece... it's given like a horseshoe is, after the ceremony.

What are you most proud of?

Finishing it in time... nothing like a bit of pressure! I got the colours right too, yay. There are 260+ tiny beads on this!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Sweetheart Tree patterns look deceptively simple, but boy does Sandie pack a heap of detail in a small space! Not for the beginner but don't let that put you off making this for a special bride and groom.

Thanks Darns! Oh you don't give horseshoes for luck??? I guess it must be an English custom then? They're not real ones, they're usually made of satin with lace etc added and given by young kiddies. As for this quadrielle, each side is 2"sq... I made mine slightly smaller than the original. It would make lovely Xmas decorations too... could even go smaller... not this year tho! ;-)

Pam, it's lovely! Tiny, tiny stitches and the beading! WOW! I have never heard of a quadrielle or the custom of giving horseshoes (for luck, I assume). How big is this? I have a feeling I'll be super impressed that there is so much stitching in a small space!

Oh, Pam - what a lovely idea! Children often give silver horseshoes (not real ones of course) to the bride after a wedding in the UK, but they're mass produced usually, and made of cardboard. This is such a lovely idea and so much nicer - something unique for the bride to keep and to look at throughout her marriage. You've made a beautiful job of it!

Thanks Patricia, yeah I really like that it's personalised. Was neat to match the bridal party colours too. I would have liked to put some lavender oil in it too but since it has to leave NZ thought I'd better play safe.. Sure was nice to want to stitch again!

Oh what a lovely idea. would you believe I still have my little shoe and rolling pin given to me the day I got married. The rolling pin the ends fell off, which reminds me I should mend it. but the little shoe is still intact after 34 years.....and yes Patricia given to me by children, so that custom was very much here back then, not sure what they do today.

How beautiful! So talented! And they married on my wedding anniversary date! I've not done any cross stitch since 9/11, when I was in the middle of a picture. I put it down and just can't do cross stitch anymore.

Oh that's lovely to know it's your anniversary too, but makes me sad that you haven't cross stitched since 9/11. {hugs}
