Pattern Info

This project was designed by pgirsh.
Info can be found at:

I just drew the tree shape I wanted, no pattern was purchased, used pattern to trace on wood.

Instructions

Cut plywood size you want, attached fabric and staple or glue to back side. Drill holes in board through fabric exact size of lights and insert lights.
Add jewelry where ever it will fit. I used loose pearls, beads and sequins to fill in. You want jewelry the lights will reflect. Light wires must be taped to the back of the board out of the way. Put into frame and plug in and check it. ...

Materials

A 15" x 20" plywood board, fabric to cover board and tuck in back, wooden tree-shaped board, small string of Christmas lights, I used colored lights, lots of old jewelry from friends and family, 1 earring, 1 cuff link, etc., saw to cut out tree shape and frame to fit, and a drill.

What was your inspiration?

I saw one made with the lights and one with the lights. I had to have one too.

What are you most proud of?

The jewelry came from my childhood, my parents, who are gone now, my husband, and my children and their spouses, and lots of friends, What do you do with one earring after you lost the other one?

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Collect lots of jewelry and get help with the sawing and drilling.

OMG...my mother in law made these, and they are gorgeous! Yours is amazing! I love these trees and do plan on making one myself when I have enough jewelry. I have a lot of my own, but didn't think of asking friends and family for any old jewelry they might have...great idea! Maybe I'll get enough to start making this before Christmas 2012!!! I hope so. Thanks for sharing.

My grandmother used to do this. Wish I had one of hers.

When I was a little girl, the neighbor lady next door made these. She worked at Younkers and was allowed to purchase broken jewelry. She used black velvet on the background to show off the glitter of the metal. Each was a piece of art.

I really wanted emerald green but could not find it at the time. I asked family and friends for broken jewelry and one earring, even my husband contribulated cuff links.
