What was your inspiration?

I love the french braid, and have seen how people have a lot of problems picking out frabrics to do one. Jelly Rolls and Layer Cakes make great French Braid quilts. The fabrics are already picked out for you.

What are you most proud of?

How wonderfully the pattern worked out as far as the colors blending.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

The more modern Jelly Rolls seem to be too busy. The more traditional fabrics work much better. TheJelly Roll needs to have three basic color pallets and a good combination of light, medium, and dark colors in each color way to complete the quilt as shown.

Bonne, I finally remembered the name of the line. It was Hartfield by Barbara Brachman. It is 4 or 5 years old though.

whoops - hit wrong key. Thanks. I've been searching the fabric collections on fatquartershop.com. I'm sure I'll come across a great line sometime soon! In the meantime, I've got several projects lined up.

I followed the link to your comment to my first comment, and I wanted to tell you again, the more I look at this quilt, the more I love it. What fabric line did you use - I don't recognize it. A picture of this will definitely go on my "quilts I want to make" list hanging in my sewing room.

Bonnie, I'm sorry but this was an old line. The fabric was given to me. I have been trying to remember the name and it just has escaped me. The border was some fabric I found at JoAnn's last year. I just knew I wanted to use it when I saw it. I'll let you know when I think of it. There is a line out now I love called Blueberry Crumb Cake. If you like blue, it would be beautiful.

I think you're exactly right about this needing smaller prints. I love your colors, and I wouldn't ususally say I like pastels - it looks almost like an impressionist painting. I like the border fabric too - a nice contrast.
