This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Design Your Own Handbag »

Instructions

I used my brother in laws, cast off jacket and shirt to make this bag for my niece for Christmas. It took a few tries to get it right, but I think it came out pretty good. Any comments? Suggestions?

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Accessory

For: Women

Style: Classic

Materials

Man's Sports Jacket and Silk Shirt; Interfacing, Antique Brass Hardware

What was your inspiration?

This was my first try at a bag with hardware and no commercial pattern. It is a Christmas present for my niece, made from her father's sports jacket and shirt. The fabric on these items was so expensive, I just could not see it going into a donation bin and possibly ripped into rags. So I up cycled them.

What are you most proud of?

The overall bag. I am feeling really good about this first project.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Think your project through and take your time. Making a sample from your pattern will help you determine any areas you need to adjust or change before you are using the project fabric.
