What was your inspiration?
I was swatching for a design idea for the 101 one skein wonders: lace edition book, when I stumbled on this really cute lace and cable combination. I wanted to see if I could knit the vest with only one skein of Eco Wool, because we only had one skein left in the store in this color. I've been obsessed with the Straw color for a while, but I can't put it directly next to my skin or I'll look green, lol. Using it for a vest lets me put a white shirt between the straw color and my face, which is good. At the end of the day, I decided that I loved this design, so I ended up releasing it as an independent pattern.
What are you most proud of?
combining the lace and cable in a simple 4-row repeat, and getting a full-sized vest in a large range of sizes out of 1-2 skeins of yarn!
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
use a row counter, or a chart keeper to track the design. The pattern offers written directions as well as the charts, for those who are less comfortable with charts. Also, block out the vest before seaming the sides, or it could end up shorted than planned.
