Instructions

I enlarged a paper pieced Mariner's star for the center of the quilt. along all the edges were a kimono block, then a Kanji , then another kimono block followed by another Kanji etc all the way around except I made Japanese fans for the corners. I searched the web for Kanji words, like love, peace, blessings, faithful, etc. enlarged them to suit, then put them under my fabric, so I could see ...

What was your inspiration?

This was a gift for my granddaughter who loves all things Japanese.

What are you most proud of?

Aside from my granddaughter.... the Mariner's star

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

use oriental inspired fabrics for the kimonos. I love paper piecing because it is so precise. I often enlarge patterns from my extensive quilting library. They are striking in the center of a quilt.

Your quilt is just beautiful. Where did you get the pattern for the mariners star . My son want me to make him a quilt with the star.
