Japanese Bombshell

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Sew Retro: Perfect Fit Bombshell Dress »

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Formal / Bridal

Materials

Japanese cotton, poplin

What was your inspiration?

This is the finished dress from Gerties Sew Retro course on Craftsy. I must say that I would never have picked this pattern from Burdastyle to make for myself because its just not what I would have gravitated towards. Im so glad I did the course though, because I ended up with a dress that flatters and that I absolutely adore. The course was good fun and I learned a whole tonne of dressmaking techniques that will help me way into the future.

What are you most proud of?

The red japanese cotton was just perfect and it fit like a dream. I'm also proud that I struggled through the muslin and came up with a perfect fit. I almost cried, but glad I struggled though.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Make sure the muslin fits well.

This dress is great on you! I was impressed by your persevearance to get a perfect fit...with me there is usually a moment where I lose my patience with the muslins and all I want is get it done. Obviously there is a particular state of mind that I have to reach in order to be so meticulous. Your result is admirable!

Looks great. Taking the couture dress class now but am taking the Bombshell class after. You did such a fabulous job on this you will ace the Couture dress with Susan.

Thanks so much, Scheri! Yeah, Susan's course is next on the horizon...from what I've heard it's really good. Doing the Starlet Suit Jacket now and on the lining! I think the dress turned out so well because I spent a butt load of time on fitting the muslin (and a few tears, admittedly!) On Burdastyle, Susan commented over and over again on the importance of fit and that the most frustrating thing about the Craftsy courses is that she can't see the muslin. That was the most frustrating part for me, but worth the perservearance! Can't wait to see your dress!
