This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Craftsy Block of the Month 2013 with Laura Nownes »

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Home

Style: Whimsical, Traditional

Materials

My inspiration fabric was the butterfly print on black. Pulled numerous pieces from my stash, and have bought a couple pieces plus some tone on tone black. Thinking I want that to be the background. This is going to be fun:)

Wondering if you've decided which of these you're going to use? I really like choice #2 better on its own, but when you paired choice #1 with the February blocks is balances it quite nicely!

Kim, I haven't decided yet. I am using the butterfly print with the black background through out the quilt so I am leaning toward the first one. But I don't have to make a decision until it's time to put the top together so they are both an option. Thanks for your input:)

a quilt top done using that layout repeated all over would look real cool in those colours :)

I really like the block with the butterfly print. I'm planning to work with black as well, so anxious to see how your other blocks come out.

Your blocks are really pretty. You may want to wait and see how the rest of the blocks come together before you redo then. What color are you using for your background fabric? that will make a big difference too.

My intention is to use tone on tone blacks for the background. I just loved the butterfly print so I wanted to use that for the color inspiration. I did do another one with the narrow strips black, I'll look at it again in the morning and see what I think. Thanks for the input.

The black is too strong color for this block. I think that you will improve the look if you do following: cut strips from each one of the black sides and add violet strips to become a frame. The block would looks more balanced. If you want to sew new ones simply change the places of light violet and black pieces. You will have a kind of gradation and the whole block will looks more vivid, The fabrics are great, meanwhile.

I'm thinking I need to do another one with the narrow strips in the black, maybe I'll sew one together and see what I think.
