What advice would you give someone starting this project?

If you look carefully, you will see that the Asterisk block is not centered correctly. This happened because I did not realize that the center marking on my 12 1/2 inch square ruler is not in the center of the square. After messing up the center on several blocks, I began to check more closely and realized that this ruler has 1/2" seam allowances on only 2 sides. This put the center in a different location. Therefore, I measured and marked a new center exactly 6 1/2 inches from all sides. Check out your rulers carefully and be sure to understand how they are marked so you won't make the same mistake.
