Quilting: Jacobs Ladder
32 kudoz

Jacobs Ladder

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Magical Jelly Roll Quilts »

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Home

Style: Traditional, Classic, Casual

What was your inspiration?

I began this quilt after seeing a tutorial from MSQC. Then I took the Magical Jelly Roll Quilt course and built on knowledge I learned in that course.

What are you most proud of?

I did all the machine quilting on my home machine and feel like I am ready to try more colors and types of threads for machine quilting.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

This is a fun project for a beginner.

As all others have commented, your quilt is absolutely beautiful! Do you mind sharing how many blocks across and how many down? What was the approx. finished size of your quilt? Thanks!

Your quilt is so pretty. I really like the colours and the decorative stitching! I'm thinking of making this one next.

Thank you! It's a fun quilt and not too stressful as are some that are more challenging.

Thank you Kimberly. Green grass always makes a nice backdrop for the pictures when there's no room elsewhere. I love promoting your class when others compliment my work because you are such wonderful inspiration.

Lovely quilt. I just learned how to quilt and this is very inspirational. I struggled with figuring how to quilt the top and I did a cross hatch like you did, except with straight stitches. I liked how you used the decorative stitch instead.

Thank you. I am also learning how to quilt my own quilts because it isn't feasible for me to pay someone to do it for me. I am getting brave enough to try some of the decorative stitches on the sewing machine and I can do free-motion stippling in the borders. I've done my share of "unsewing" but the more practicing I do the less ripping out I have to do.

There is a Craftsy course. Magical Jelly Roll Quilts. Also a free Missouri Star Quilt Company tutorial. Both use precuts. Good luck.

Great job! I love your colors! I have finished my Jacob's Ladder block, but haven't put them all together yet. You have definitely set the bar high :)

Thank you for such a nice comment. When I am working on a quilt, I am obsessed with finishing it. Then comes the hard part of coming up with the next project. The Craftsy courses are wonderful for inspiration. I'll be looking forward to seeing your project.

This is so good! I especially like the way you used a serpentine stitch for the quilting instead of stitch in the ditch.

Thank you. Kimberly used the serpentine stitches on one of her quilts so I decided to give it a try. I've learned a lot in the Craftsy courses and try to put something new into each project I do.

Thank you. It is still a challenge to be brave enough to let my stitches show when I quilt. I am okay as long as I can go in a straight line. I need to do Ann Petersen's course soon so I can fill in the empty spaces with decorative stitches.

Lovely, well done! This is on my list to do but have to say your quilt may have just pushed it up the list closer to the top... beautiful work.
