Sewing: Izzy's Drawstring Bag

Izzy's Drawstring Bag

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Bag-Making Basics: Drawstring Bag & Bucket Bag »

Instructions

I had a heck of a time with the drawstring (getting it turned right side out). I may just buy some cord next time.

I printed out the name and pinned it in place then just embroidered over it. I found this easier than having to trace the letters. I just carefully removed the paper when I was done. I also added fray check to all the embroidery knots so they'll stay put.

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Functional

For: Girls

Style: Cute

Materials

I had 1/2 yard of the "Boyd's Bears" fabric which I fussy cut to show off the bears.:-) The solid pink and the floral lining fabrics were also from my stash. Another project that cost nothing to make.

What was your inspiration?

The cute teddy bear fabric.

What are you most proud of?

My hand embroidery. I was going to cheat and use my Singer monogrammer but it wouldn't cooperate. Might be broken.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Have fun choosing the perfect fabric for your recipient.

The hand embroidery is growing on me. I think I'll be doing more of that. :-)

This is adorable! I think your hand embroidery is better than your Singer's would be. Makes it very personal. Gonna have to remember that the next time I see fancy names/initials and wish I had an embroidery machine... Once again, you've inspired me!

I am starting to like hand embroidery, Jean. I agree that it makes the project more personal. Embroidery machines are nice but to me it seems like cheating.
