So, I casually say to my Hubby, look at that for a cake, his response "WOW". I would love to try and copy it with cake dummies for display in my shop! Great job, would be a real shame to cut into a cake like that, so stunning. Thank you for letting us see this creation which is so bviously influenced by Marina's teachings.

Sorry for the delay - I didn't know I had any messages...I wasn't alerted! Anyway, it is time consuming scrunching up all the little pieces of fondant and applying it to the cake - as it was just a 10" tier, it wasn't a horribly long time. Thanks for looking! :)

I was told by one tutor it was our strict food and hygiene standards. I know that some of the colours used do not meet our standards also and we have to tell clients that the decoration with these on are for display only. The tutor also mentioned the danger if someone biting into a wires should for some reason break off into the cake. I would have though common sense would prevail though.

Wow love the colour scheme the piping is so neat. Something I am still practicing as I have only been at the cake decorating for a year. Your roses are stunning. Maybe you could answer a question., In New Zealand we are told not to put wires directly into our cakes we use posy spikes or large straws to hold the wires in place. In the craftsy lesson for the gift boxes there were a lot of wires stuck directly into the cake is this common practice in the USA?

Thank you for the kind words! I know there are varying opinions on the whole wire in cake thing. I have always tried to avoid sticking anything into a cake if possible. All bows, ribbons are always just sitting on the cake. For gumpaste flowers, I clip the wire as close to the flower head as possible while still leaving enough to stick in the cake to hold. I only buy and use covered wires to begin with so the wire is already covered. I honestly don't know the "why" behind not sticking wire into the cake ...what reason do they give in New Zealand for this practice? Thanks! Lisa
