Creative Quilt Backs »

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Boys

Style: Whimsical

Materials

100% cotton prints, low loft polyester batting

What was your inspiration?

A friend who collects owls is having a baby. I saw the "It's a Hootie" pattern in the McCalls Quilting Aug-Sep 2012 issue and altered the colors and layout to fit my needs. The quilt is 50" square. With the leftover fabric and patchwork pieces I made a pillowcase for when her son is older and in a "big boy" bed.

The back was inspired by the Creative Quilt Backs class on Craftsy.

What are you most proud of?

Doing the math to make it all fit right and lining up the front and back so the quilting was right on both sides. The class was a great help!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Don't be afraid to alter a pattern to make it your own.
