It Happened One Halloween Night

Difficulty:

Category: Other

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Unisex

Style: Whimsical, Holiday

Materials

Craft pumpkin, card stock, scrapbook paper, balsa wood, craft wire, craft glue, acrylic paint, fine glitter, battery operated tea lights

What was your inspiration?

This pumpkin was inspired by the Clark Gable/Claudette Colbert film "It Happened One Night". I used the famous publicity shot of the two stars thumbing a ride while perched on a wooden fence and created a Halloween version of it.

What are you most proud of?

The detail work on the skeletons, including Clark's mustache!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Take your time with the paper cutting. People love to get up close to detailed pumpkins like this and will scrutinize every part. Neatness counts :)

I also painted them lightly with white acrylic and sprinkled with Martha Stewart's fine glow-in-the-dark glitter once I had them in the pose I needed for this project.

Actually, I just did a Google image search for 'skeleton' and found one that suited my needs (where the skull was turned slightly to the side). I then saved the image and printed in the size I wanted (on white card stock) and cut out using an x-acto knife. Since I needed them 'thumbing' a ride I cut the arms at the elbow joints and glued the forearms in the pose I needed. It's all just cut and paste really once you find the skeleton pose you want.

Where did you find the patterns of the paper skelletons? These would be cute to use for Day-of-the-Dead themes? You mind sharing where you got the patterns for the skelletons? Thanks for showing us. Cookie
