This quilt is made from many fabrics from many places, collected over a period of five to seven years.
What was your inspiration?
My inspiration for this quilt was simply the pattern itself. Though I knew how to applique, I didn't trust my skills when I began. I took classes and belonged to an applique group before I trusted myself to begin. I also made many starts and stops. I worked on the project for over seven years. I honed my skills over time and I took out many stitches and restitched them to please myself before it was finished. Thanks to Maggie Walker, the designer of this quilt pattern.
What are you most proud of?
I just love the quilt over all, and am pleased with the outcome. I'm also pleased with the hand quilting in the quilt. It is done with the echo technique, so there is much quilting in this quilt.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
I would advised anyone to begin this project without some good experience with color and applique skills. I had completed a number of applique projects before I began this quilt.
I would also advise anyone who is afraid to take out stitches and restitch them that this isn't a project for you. I'm not against taking out my work to make it better after remaking something that I'm not pleased with.
