Cross not used yarn when going over more than 3 to 4 stitches. But do this at alternating positions otherwise the strands will look through the fabric.

cross the unused yarn when going over more than 3-4 stitches at alternating positions in each row and weave in the ends during knitting.
It saves you a lot of time!
