What was your inspiration?

This is a somewhat unusual and hard to find plant, and it is definitely a conversation starter with my backyard garden guests. I wanted to be a little creative with the foliage plants on my deck for the summer.

What are you most proud of?

The spectacular bloom, which grows out of dormant winter bulbs and shoots up in late march or early April, long before summer foliage emerges.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Read up on this species. Even though it is crazy easy to grow, it will be stinky for about 2-4 days when at about 5 yrs old, it decides to bloom (even then, it won't bloom every year). I do offer corms each year between the months of march to May if you can't find them where you live. My videos (included) will tell you almost everything you need to know.

I live in Oregon. I would absolutely love to grow some forms! What a fantastic plant! I wouldn't mind paying to have them shipped to me. How can I get you my information?

Great article! Have thought about trying this plant in Pensacola, FL. Zone 8B or (, depending on different maps. Will read more and see what happens in 2012.

Where you live, you won't need to overwinter it indoors while dormant like I do here in Minnesota. You should have good luck with them.

From early March through May each year, I have corms available. Right now they are all planted and sprouting. If you live in Minneapolis, you could stop by and I would send you home with one.
