How Sweet It Is

Instructions

Designed by Deborah Hobbs. Pattern featured in March/April 2010 McCalls Quilting Magazine.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Children

Style: Whimsical, Casual, Cute

Materials

White on white cotton for background and backing, 13 asst. prints for candy wrappers, border and binding fabric, ribbons, Warm & Natural batting, Machine quilted on a Gamill Long Arm machine.

What was your inspiration?

Saw this pattern in McCalls, and the 3 dimensional aspects of it intrigued me. I love the colors, and the ribbons. It is so cute. The quilt as designed and finished is 54 x 54" . However I added an extra row of blocks so the finished size is rectangular and comes out at 52 x 63-1/2".

What are you most proud of?

Love the colors, love the ribbons, love the design.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Just jump in. The water's warm.

Hope this helps. The 'gathered ends' of the candy wrappers are incorporated in the block. It is a VERY easy quilt to sew. Just requires a little time and patience. If you have any other questions, let me know. Good luck on your project.

Is that just a fold or a pleat at the of the wrapper ends?

It is slightly gathered. Each rectangle for each end is folded in half, right sides together and stitched on the ends. Then turned right side out and gathered to fit the same color end on the center 'snowball block'.

Love it! Are the pieces of candy applique?

No. The center is a 'snowball block', and the ends are gathered as in my previous post. If you look at the instruction page I copied, it show how each candy wrapper block goes together. It takes 3 candy wrapper blocks to make a single quilt block. You can also see that layout diagram in the photographed instructions I included.
