What was your inspiration?
One of my friends and her husband are very active Society for Creative Anachronism members. They were invited to a Christmas party, so they wanted to have a set of houppelandes for them to wear to it. The thing is there is no actual pattern for them. I had to use theoretical ideas for a men's and women's houppelande from websites available at the time.
What are you most proud of?
The way that the gown falls exactly how I've seen in paintings.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Study historical paintings of medieval clothing. It really wasn't making the gown that made this so advanced, it was the creation of the pattern.
