Materials
The back of the sweater jacket is denim that was re-purposed from a worn out shirt. The sleeves, yoke, collar, and front are all crocheted with acrylic yarns. The horse head is crocheted with cotton crochet thread. On the cuffs are small metal snaffle bits that were taken from an old riding shirt. I like to reuse materials whenever I can.
What was your inspiration?
My niece is horse crazy just like all the women in my family. I haven't gotten to see her in over a year and I miss her so much. So I combined two patterns I liked (one for the sweater, and one for the applique horse head) and told her to think of it as a long distance hug every time she puts it on.
What are you most proud of?
I loved how the horse head turned out. It took me a lot of frogging to get it to look right.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Take your time and enjoy the process. This is not a one weekend project by any means. It is the hardest thing I have ever made.
