Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Sewing With Knits: 5 Wardrobe Essentials »

Instructions

Just have fun with this project and be yourself. Play around with the pattern pieces, until it becomes something that you will wear often.

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Retro / Vintage, Romantic, Cute, Outdoorsy, Funky, Whimsical, Casual

Materials

Interlock Knit, Cotton Lycra Knit, serger thread and regular thread, and a dual-separating parka zipper

What was your inspiration?

I have been wanting to learn more about sewing with knits for a very long time. I am used to sewing only with cotton, and this year I have decided to step out of my comfort zone and try new things, plus I am in need of a new wardrobe and this class seems like a very good start for the basics. I knew that I would not wear a hoodie, but still wanted to learn and use the techniques from this class, so I did just that to make myself a "hoodie" spring/summer jacket.

What are you most proud of?

I am most proud that I was able to use the techniques from the class and sew up this project with more ease than I thought was possible going in, and also that I was able to incorporate some of my own designing into it to make it my own.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Take your time, and don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone.

Very cute! I love the fabric...in fact I just bought some that is either the same or similier. The pink lining in the hood and pockets "pops"...like how perfect is that! I also like that pattern much better with a zipper.

I meant "similar". 5:30 AM...way too early!

Thank you Pinkie. I love the fabric too. I have some left and I am trying to figure out what to do with it :-)

Oooh, you finished it! I love the fabric and how you lined the hood in a contrasting colour. And you even added a zipper! Impressive. :)

So cute! I love the interesting and unexpected fabric. The hood lining really goes nicely and adds to the design. You will have fun wearing this.

I really like this and the hood is lovely. It really sets it off. This would make up as a nice dressing gown if it was made in fleece or even cotton for the warmer days. Well done you.

Thank you mubba0mine. I have some of each fabric left. I will have to think about your suggestion - it is a good one :-)

Love the fabric. Is the fabric double-sided, or did you line it?

Thank you Zanna. The fabric is not double-sided. It is just a thick interlock - the hood is the only part that is lined.

Really pretty. Turning the hoodie into a jacket is a good idea.

Thank you TanjaH. It was a little daunting at first trying to figure out how to change the pattern to make it work, but I think it is totally worth it.

Thank you Scheri. This fabric just called my name when I saw it, and I thought this project would be just perfect for it :-)
