Pattern Info

make your own dress form

Instructions

actually found instructions on youtube ...just typ in dress form or dress dummy in the search its pretty cool and easy

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Functional

For: Unisex

Materials

duct tape, packing peanuts(or newpaper, foam, anything to stuff it and make it firm) base to old stand up lamp, me(well, you would use you)

What was your inspiration?

when i started making clothing for other people I needed something for trying it out (other than me because i am way to skinny) so i was looking for dress forms and they are outrageously expensive and then my friend found these on yout tube and told me about it so i thought, why not give it a try

What are you most proud of?

i love the way it came out, and if i am making something for someone larger than me i just put on a stuffed bra and add padding where needed

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

well, you need someone you trust to wrap you in duct tape and then cut it down the back, and make sure you are in a cool room..it gets hot being wrapped in duct tape : )

Great idea! I was going to make one out of cast material but this is much less messy and instant results, no drying time etc.

Great job! I assume one must wrap oneself in fabric first! ha ha

hehe, yeah you have to wear an old t-shirt ...I definitely would not want to be wrapped in duct tape without it : )

I'm not sure I could have done my daughter's wedding gown without making a duc tape form first.

this is such a smart idea! I had wanted a dress form for Christmas last year but after my husband priced them, I decided I would do without one. I look forward to making this!
