A photo of my boys (either end), in the backyard, with friends many years ago.

Definitely start on something that doesn't have so many legs!!!!

Where do you find skin toned fabrics? I'm just learning to make portrait quilts and I'm having trouble finding the fabric colors for skin. Do use color pencils, paint or some other medium to add shading?

I had some hand dyed fabrics from a friend. Some are very fine prints. I like to find mottled fabrics, marble dyed etc. For the faces, as I have on all my projects, I hand sketch in coloured pencil.

I use marbled fabric for the skin tones. As for the faces they are all drawn with coloured pencil.

Very cute. I got a chuckle on your comment about not starting on a project with so many legs. What about faces? Incredibly nice work on the faces and expressions.
