Herbs in a Pot

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Fresh Ideas for Creative Container Gardening »

Difficulty:

Category: Home & Garden

Type of item: Plant or Flower

For: Home

Style: Traditional, Outdoorsy

Materials

plant pot, basil, oregano, lemon thyme, sage, cilantro

What was your inspiration?

I wanted herbs grown close to my kitchen so I would actually remember to use them!

What are you most proud of?

All of the varieties are doing wonderfully! I have tried to grow basil in my raised garden beds for several years, and it always looked sad. Perhaps it doesn't like my garden soil, which is high in nitrogen. I will grow it in a pot from now on!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Mix your favorite herbs in one pot - it looks great, is functional and smells terrific!

Looks fabulous! Just today I was able to plant my herbs in a planter by the house. Our spring has been so cold that I've not wanted them to freeze. I did put them on the deck for a couple of morning after the frost wore off to harded them. Will take a pic when I can learn to load it.

Thanks! I just planted this summer's herb pot a few days ago, too. I'd love to see a picture of yours!

I used a potting soil with slow release fertilizer in it, knowing that the plants would only last the summer. You should use an organic fertilizer, not synthetic which may impart an odor or flavor to the herbs.
