Henry's Tool Belt
Instructions
I'm in the process of creating the pattern and directions for the tool belt.Difficulty:
Category: Sewing
Type of item: Toy
For: Children
Style: Cute, Whimsical
Materials
Less than 25 cm (or 1/4 yard) of fabric in 2 colours; the backing is a sturdy type like twill, and the pockets are cotton flannel. About 1 m (38") of 1" wide webbing for the belt and loops. 1" Buckle, side release. Matching thread, or coordinating colour. Machine needle size 90 or 100.
What was your inspiration?
Henry loves his tools. He would frequently tuck them inside his waistband, but they would fall inside his pants! Then he "found" a long strip of fleece in my sewing room and asked me to tie it for him: he then tucked his tools in the "belt" but they tended to fall out very easily. I said to him one day that he needed a tool belt, so I searched for a kid's tool belt in the www but didn't one I liked. That's when it hit me that I'd have to design one myself!
What are you most proud of?
Making it look like a proper grownup toolbelt...except for the "cute" fabric!!
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Measure the child'd waist first!! To make sure it'll fit.
