Share a little about the materials, processes and techniques used to create this cake: I used Wilton's new stencil set to mark the loop pattern on the cake--it worked out very nicely. Also, the Hello Kitty faces are a Wilton ready-made product as well.

Which frosting did you use? How did you get it so smooth?

This is buttercream frosting--thin consistency. I get the smoother finish by mixing frosting on a low speed with a paddle (with a stand mixer such as Kitchen Aid) to introduce fewer air bubbles. Also I making sure the spatula is cleaned with very warm water each time before it touches the cake--I decorate in the kitchen, next to the sink and run the spatula under very warm water, then wipe it dry before each use.

The frosting was buttercream. I smooth it by using a spatula dipped in hot water. with excess shaken off for the final smoothing.
